Demonstration Gardens

"English Gardens - Texas Style"

The following are a sampling of what you will see on your visit:

  •    Stone Ship:  Construction completed in 1942.  Originally a two-story ocean-liner used for outdoor dances.  The two-story cabin burned in 1972.  To be rebuilt and rehabilitated in the next two to three years.

  •    Swimming Hole & Changing House:  Crystal clear water from the property's active springs made this a favorite spot all summer long.  Water levels remain constant due to constructed rock dams in the creek.  Note the paved steps on each side and the stone fireplace built into the creek bank.

·        New England Barn:  Built in the 1920's.  Used to stable Leon Bandy's horses.  Note that bricks in the floor are made from Bois d'arc wood.  These wooden bricks were once used in Fort Worth streets.  The barn was near collapse in 1988.  A firm foundation was poured and stabilization performed in 1989.  Rehabilitation plans are to use as a design studio/gift shop and offices.
