General Needs:

Easy to grow perennial. Avoid over fertilizing or plants will become leggy and require staking. Drought and heat tolerant.  Needs good drainage.

Pruning:

Echinacea will bloom for a long period without deadheading; however, deadheading will encourage new flowers. If you want to feed the birds, leave seed heads alone (especially in September and October). Echinacea responds well to pruning before flowering as a means to delay bloom. Plants can be cut back by 1/2  in early June and these will start to flower about 2-3 weeks later.

Other Maintenance:

Seldom needs division, but seedlings are best removed in spring to control spreading. Plant in well drained soil.
