Pruning:

Deadheading flowers (which last one day each) will improve the plant’s appearance and improve bloom quality. Stems need to be cut back to the ground in mid to late February. Deadleafing is needed during the summer if you let plants dry out. Cut back by 1/2  in mid May if you want to keep plants smaller and encourage fuller plants.

Other Comments:

Staking is normally not necessary.  Plants do not need to be divided for many years (10 or more). These plants are heavy feeders and would appreciate consistent fertilization during the growing season.
