Small, double, globular dark crimson blooms. It has a sweet scent and long blooming period. Healthy, shiny green foliage covers the bushy, rugged shrub as well as many small thorns. This rose is very similar to 'Cramoisi Superieur' and are often confused. 'Louis Philippe' is apparently more compact with variable color. A Texas statesman, Lorenzo de Zavala, collected this rose during his 1834 stint as Minister to France and planted it at his home in Lynchburg. |
